Christmas birthday party ideas

Preparing for a birthday on Christmas or during the holidays? It is easy to decide for the theme of the birthday party when it is on a special event - set the mood of the party according to the event.
If you have to arrange for a Christmas birthday party then here are some tips to make it a rocking event-
Since the house was already decorated for Christmas one does not need to add anything more for the party decorations. At the most, streamers and some balloons can be put on the wall, especially in cases of kid's birthday party. To make something different, one can take photographs of oneself dressed in Santa dress with candy canes and put them in the walls after turning them into poster size.One can put some scented candles which will fill the rooms with nice fragrance.
Play some Christmas carols in the cd player in low volume to create the ambiance of festive season.

The main course of the dinner can include soups, crustless Peanut Butter and Snow (Marshmallow fluff) sandwiches, ham sandwiches, bowls of marshmallows with milk, and white chocolate cover pretzels, hot cocoa and hot apple cidercookies .
If it's going to be some teen or children birthday party, then the other children of the house like the brothers and sisters of the celebrant can be dressed as elves. Presence of Santa is must if it's going to be on the Christmas day or Christmas Eve.

Games can be played to have some more fun in the party. I found few games online like -
Dig in the Snow- This game is really easy to set up. A piece of gum is put at the bottom of a giant platter of whipped cream. One has to find the bubble gum with no hands and blow a bubble, first to do it wins!
Christmas Carol game- There will be 20 clipart images which depicted a well-known Christmas Carol. The guests have to guess each Christmas Carol. The winner of the games can be presented with a nice gift.

Do you know anyone whose birthday is on Christmas or during the holiday season. To keep the mood of the festivity on the birthday party, you can surprise your guests by making the birthday cake in the shape of a Christmas tree. Betty Crocker has an easy recipe to turn an ordinary rectangular cake into Christmas tree cake. Also I have another recipe for Chocolate Eggnog layer cake. Here is it:-

Ingredients

2 cups cake flour, 3/4 cup cocoa, plus 3 tablespoons extra for the pans, 2 teaspoons baking soda,1 teaspoon baking powder,1 teaspoon salt, 1 cup sugar,1/4 cup vegetable oil, 2 large eggs plus 2 large egg yolks, 4 ounces bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, melted and slightly cooled,1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled, 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract, 1 cup dairy eggnog.

Preparations

Mix together the flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and set oven rack at upper middle level. Grease lightly 2 9-inch springform pans. Dust pans with the extra cocoa and shake out excess. Sugar and oil are beaten together . Eggs and yolks, one at a time, are added beating well after each addition. Beat in melted chocolate and coffee. Vanilla extract to eggnog is added. Beat flour mixture and eggnog mixture into chocolate mixture a little at a time, alternately. Scrape down sides of bowl and beat again, briefly. After dividing the batter evenly between prepared pans, bake for 30-35 minutes, or until cake springs back when lightly pressed in the center or when cake looks almost black and glossy.Remove pans from oven and allow to cool on wire racks for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove cake from pans and allow to cool completely before frosting:

Chocolate Eggnog Icing

Ingredients

2 cups unsweetened cocoa, 1 3/4 cups powdered sugar, 3/4 stick (6 tablespoons) unsalted butter, 1 8-ounce brick cream cheese, 2 ounces bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, melted and slightly cooled, 3/4 cup dairy eggnog, 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract.

Preparations

Mix together the cocoa and powdered sugar to avoid lumps. Cream together all other ingredients. Add cocoa mixture a little at a time. Beat on highest mixer setting for several minutes, pausing to scrape down sides of bowl occasionally. Ice the cake and serve. Frosting is enough to generously frost 2 9-inch or 10-inch cake layer.

Cookie Recipe for Birthday on Thanksgiving Day

My friend Sandra is going to have a gala time on this Thanksgiving Day. First of all there will be family reunion to celebrate Thanksgiving as well as the birthday of Sandra's niece who will turn five on this Thanksgiving Day. So, this year besides the turkey with cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes there will be burgers and cookies and a big cake will be included into the menu.

She shared with me recipe of the Lollipop Flower Pots that she is going to make.

Ingredients:

1package (18 ounces) refrigerated sugar cookie dough
36small lollipops
36caramels
1cup chocolate cookie crumbs
Green gummy fruit slices or candy spearmint leaves

Preparation: 1. Oven is to preheated to 350°F. 36 mini (1-3/4-inch) muffin pan cups are lightly greased. Shape dough into 36 balls; press onto bottoms and up sides of prepared muffin cups. 1 caramel is placed in center of each muffin cup.
2.Bake 10 to 11 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cookies are made to cool in pan on wire racks. Remove to wire racks; cool completely.
3.Sprinkle 1 teaspoon cookie crumbs into center of each cookie. Flatten gummy fruit slices slightly; press into leaf shapes. Push each lollipop stick through 1 or 2 leaves as desired. Push 1 lollipop with leaves into each cookie cup.

History of the "Happy Birthday Song"

Do you know that the song “ Happy Birthday” is under copyright? Did you have any idea that originally this song was done to wish good morning in classes?
It might make you astonished, but there are many interesting facts behind this timeless universal birthday song without which any birthday celebration is incomplete.

The origin of Happy Birthday song dates back to the early 1890's when two American sisters, Mildred Hill and Patti Hill composed the song. While Mildred is believed to have made the tune Patti put the lyrics “Good morning dear teacher, good morning to you”. It was meant for classroom greeting song as both the sisters were related to the field of education. While Patty was a schoolteacher developing the "Patty Hill blocks" and was a faculty member at Columbia University Teachers College, Mildred was also an educator who later on became a composer, pianist and organist. The song "Good Morning to All"can be found in the book Song Stories for the Kindergarten which was written by the sisters and published in 1893.

It is still unclear who changed the lyrics to “Happy Birthday to you” and for what reason, but it was first published in early 1920's

Isn't it a coincidence that when I was writing about birthday celebration for 30th birthday, I heard that my colleague's wife will turn thirty on this Halloween. Celebrity Birthdays Today : Michael Jackson, Joel Schumacher, Mark Morris

It's Michael Jackson's birthday today! He's turning 49. That's almost 50! I hope he starts acting his age and stop bothering kids. Joel Schumacher was also born today he's 69. If you don't know exactly who he is I'm sure you'll know the films he directed like Batman Forever, Batman and Robin. And who can forget the classic 80s films like The Lost Boys and St. Elmo's Fire. It's also Mark Morris's birthday. He's not a famous celebrity he's a choreographer. I knew about him because his company Mark Morris Dance Group is just around the corner of where I live. It's really great to see their dance performances. They have dance classes and Yoga over there too. So instead of going to the Y I go there for some Yoga classes.

Celebrity Birthdays Today : Shania Twain, Jason Priestley, Jack Black, Amanda Tapping, Jennifer Coolidge

So many actors and performers share their birthday today. Shania Twain turns 42, Jack Black 38, and Jason Priestley of Beverly Hills, 90210 also turns 38 (You still remember him don't you? Just in case you don't his picture is on the right.)

Other celebrities like Amanda Tapping of Star Gate fame and Jennifer Coolidge (Pootie Tang, American Pie, Legally Blonde) were born today too!

And here's Shania Twain telling us "look how far we've come". I really think they've come really far in terms of being celebrities and growing in their respective careers.

Celebrity Birthdays Today: Alexa Vega, Mario, Ma$e

Can you believe that Carmen Cortez of Spy kids is growing up so fast? The child actor who played Carmen is Alexa Vega. I almost couldn't recognize her in the wikipedia photo. It's this one:

Did you know that she also sings? But she's not the only singer who's birthday falls on the same day! Both R&B singer Mario and Ma$e are having their birthdays today. Isn't that way cool? I found this Mario's video from 2004. Remember he got two Billboard awards for this one.

90th Birthday Surprise

A lady in New Hampshire after celebrating her 90th birthday found out that the cottage she was living in is on fire! How's that for a birthday surprise?

Sophie Fedorowicz who's the owner of North County Cottages owe her good nose -- because she smelled the fire, looked around and then left the burning cottage. I can't imagine myself being as sharp as she is at the age of 90! Anyway happy belated birthday Sophie!

Rum Birthday Cake Recipe

In commemoration of Hunter S. Thompson's birthday we're going to make a rum birthday cake! And we can cook our birthday cake either in the oven or on the stove. Nice huh?

This is a rum cake recipe that I found off Cooks here's how it goes:

For the cake you're going to need the following ingredients:

• 1 3/4 cup refined wheat flour
• 1 3/4 cup unrefined wheat flour
• 3 tablespoons butter
• 1 1/2 teaspoon Nescafe instant coffee
• 1 cup cocoa powder
• 2 cups fresh thick yoghurt
• 2 3/4 cup sugar
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1 shot of any good dark rum
• large handful of assorted nuts or dry fruits (cashews, walnuts, raisins, etc)

For the icing you'll need these:

• 1 cup grated dark chocolate
• 1/2 teaspoon unsalted butter
• 1 teaspoon honey
• 1 teaspoon rum
• some whole milk, for blending
• small handful of M&M minis (I don't mind a big handful either)

How to bake the cake -

1. Mix the dry cake ingredients of the cake well, after that add the rest of the ingredients. Mix them well and pour it into a well greased pan. If you're cooking in an oven, bake at 300-340°F (150-170°C) for about 30 minutes.
2. If you're cooking on stove, first steam the cake in a large pressure cooker at medium heat for 60-90 minutes. After the cake is cooked, set it aside for 15 minutes to cool.

How to make the icing:

1. Combine all icing ingredients in small pan. Mix on low heat while adding enough milk so that it's as thick as honey. Take it off the heat as soon as it's smoothened out. Spread the icing on the cake and garnish with the M&Ms before it cools. (Don't put the M&Ms in your mouth!)
2. It'll be ready to serve as soon as the icing cools and thickens.

Birthday Speeches - Ten Top Tips on What Not to Say or Do

1. Don't mention age in your birthday speech unless it's a specific birthday that is being celebrated like a 21st or a 50th. Some people like to celebrate every birthday but prefer not to have their actual age mentioned.
2. Never tell a rude story. Birthdays are quite often family events and grandma might be offended whatever about the birthday boy or girl.
3. Don't mention anything embarrassing. The celebrant might not want it known to his or her guests that he/she has a drink problem and his/her family might not want it mentioned either.

6. Don't try to be too funny. Comedians are people with excellent timing and training. Most of us cannot write witty speeches and certainly cannot deliver them. It's better to be light-hearted and genuine rather than trying to write a script suitable for a TV comedy hour.
